June 2010 newsletter

I’ll wish you a happy 4th a little early - but on the weekend of 3 & 4 July, come on out to visit me at my booth at the Sunflower Farm Festival in Rutledge, Ga., It’s a wonderful little festival - great music, great art and fields of sunflowers where you can pick a whole bunch to take home. I’ll have some sunflower paintings on “special” and, in honor of the 4th, I will have also a couple of new unusual American flag paintings - okay, no jokes about the Brit selling y’all flags on the 4th … I know, I know! Directions to the festival : Take Exit 105 off the I-20, turn SOUTH on Newborn Rd. Travel 3 miles to Keencheefonnee Rod, turn LEFT. GO 2 miles to Durden Rd , turn LEFT and the festival is just down the road. It’s out in the country - a fun day. Entry fee is $5, kids $2 and under 3 free.

Lee will be at the gallery on Saturday, the 3rd July (enjoying in the air-con, sigh) so if you can’t make the festival - the gallery will still be open.

Please pick up a copy of the LAKELIFE magazine - they did a very complimentary feature on me and The Bag of Hope project - thank you very much to Kyle and Kelly at LAKELIFE. It’s a very good free magazine with news of things around Georgia’s Lake Country.

Our 1-woman show with esteemed Georgian artist, Margaret Warfield, “In My Minds Eye - Turning Vision into Reality” will close Saturday, 26 June. So hurry over, you don’t want to miss this multi-dimensional show - there are paintings, sculptures and handmade dolls - it’s wonderful!

Don’t forget to join our face book page, The Point of Art Gallery & Studio, to keep you up to date weekly. You can also see a video, expertly made by Georgia Made Georgia Grown, of the opening reception of Margaret’s show - if you couldn’t make it, this will make you regret it!

This rain and cold has to stop soon ... doesn't it? There is a promise of spring in the air…don't let it get you down, you just need to take a short drive over to the gallery to cheer your spirits! Just a little FYI, next Thursday/Friday, 25/26 March, the gallery will be open 11-3, then on Saturday we go back to the normal 10-5.

There are canvases of all sizes and prices to suit everyone, i.e. very affordable. The majority of the paintings in this show are new. This series is different from Peter’s works of old farm buildings and farm landscapes - although there are a couple of those too, don't worry! It is a homage to the beauty and wonder he found in his travels, mostly through the National Parks. The show comes down in April, so don't delay.

February 2010 newletter

I had a very grand time in Europe - my family and friends spoilt me rotten. I saw 2 plays, ate in Michelin star restaurants and went to a magical Botticelli exhibit. Holidays are so fine. I hope to do a new series based on my trip - I fell in love with Prague and I renewed my old friendship with Germany and it’s language. I’ll try to focus their charms on canvas soon. It’s just tough to get my head back to thinking of work. But, art goes on and the gallery is back in full swing … and now it’s time for our first show of 2010 :

You really don’t want to miss this - a fabulous 1-man show by local Madison artist extraordinaire, “Peter Muzyka’s Vision of America” will open on Thursday, 25 February from 6:00-8:00 p.m. with wine and light nibbles. - please mark you calendar. We look forward to seeing you at the opening.

Peter's egg tempera and oils are atmospheric and exquisite. He has been working hard on getting this new show together for a number of months. Peter has canvases of all sizes and prices to suit everyone, i.e. very affordable. This series of paintings is different from Peter’s works of old farm buildings and farm landscapes. It is a homage to the beauty and
wonder he found in his travels, mostly through the country‘s National Parks. He has painted scenes of the foothills and mountains of the Grand Tetons to the coastal rocks and seashores of Maine, Georgia and Florida; waterfalls in Pennsylvania and Georgia, plus the Georgia and Florida marshlands.

Peter has is dedicated the show to the wonder he has found in the country's natural landscape. It is a celebration of America's beauty. The show runs through 3 April.

I’m going back to do a show in Pass Christian, MS, “Art in the Pass,” in April. I am excited and looking forward to being back there. I’ll be doing more New Orleans/Mississippi art for it. In the same vein, you can order my book, “City of My Soul - My Art of New Orleans,” online. Go to this link : http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/849564

I’ll be doing a palette knife demonstration on Friday, 20 November during the Art Ramble and I’ve invited Henry to spend a couple of hours demonstrating his special touch with the paint brush - if he can join me it will be a special treat for all of us!

I’m also excited to be part of the Off the Wall Pin-Up Show at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia in Atlanta. One of my monoprints (see above) , “Heating,” will be on display and for sale at a special reception on Thursday, 19 November. I can’t be there but it’s going to be a fun show - all the art has to be small, not matted or framed and able to be pinned on a wall.

We all have so much to be thankful for even during difficult times - so, I wish you and yours a very happy Thanksgiving. Go and over-indulge - have a grand time! As that great saying goes: you only go round once, this isn’t a dress rehearsal. Enjoy!

September 2009

I’m late getting this out this month because I was off having the most marvelous time in Colorado as the artist in residence at the LUNA artists retreat. It was an inspiring time - I learned so much and am so grateful for the experience. During my time at LUNA, I spent 2 days working with another artist learning how to make monoprints. It’s an amazingly creative process - despite the name, they’re originals - and I have a collection of them for sale at very affordable prices in the gallery. I hope I can visit LUNA … Jim, Jack the Raven and the rest of the crew often! I loved being out West again.
I’m very excited to tell you my book is published! It’s called “City of My Soul - My Art of New Orleans.” It’s a salute to the great city of New Orleans, LA and the gentle town of Bay St Louis, MS using paintings I did while there. There are 6 chapters on Second lines, Mardi Gras, the Music, the Neighborhoods, the Architecture and Bay St Louis. I am very pleased with it and I hope you will enjoy! You can purchase the book at the gallery or directly from blurb.
I have a new selection of pottery from the exceptionally talented Georgia potters, Beth Fallaize of Norcross and Wayne Collins of Jonesboro, in the gallery - don’t miss this opportunity to start your Christmas shopping with these wonderful but economical original pieces of art!
Stop by when you visit the Union Junction Jamboree in downtown Union Point tomorrow and see what’s new at the gallery - we have lots of new art work and just a couple of special offers on for this weekend only!
The next show will open 5 November - artist extraordinaire,, Pete Muzyka ,will present a special, “Disappearing American Culture” - people and nature - exhibit. I’ll tell you more next time. I also have some new giclees here at the gallery. Art & prices to suit all pockets… please come on in and support your local artists!
Look forward to seeing you!

 August 2009

It’s a hot, steamy August and instead of sleepy summer time - it’s all happening!  I’ve got lots of things going on:If you’re at the coast this weekend, stop by Red Piano Too Gallery at 870 Sea Island Parkway, St Helena Island, SC for the 17th Annual Summer Show on Saturday, 8 Aug from 1:00-5:00 p.m.. I’ve been honored to be in this wonderful gallery for 3 years and I am SO disappointed I won’t be here with all the incredible artists. I took new work down especially for the show. So, go see Mary Mack and Victoria Smalls, they’ll help you have a great experience. I’d planned to be there but my car decided she needed some TLC at the garage and won’t be ready till Monday.  I think she’s got a thing for the mechanic.

Then I’m off to Atlanta to be in the Sweet 16th Slotin’s Folk Fest. I’m thrilled to be in this show - it’s one of the most prestigious shows for self-taught artists in the country with galleries from all over the USA, Europe, Canada and Mexico participating.  Folk Fest is at the North Atlanta Trade Center, 1700 Jeurgens Court, Norcross, GA 30093. Hours are Friday 5:00-10:00 pm. Saturday 10:00am -7:00 pm, Sunday 10:00-5:00 pm. Entry fee is Friday $15, Sat + Sun $7. Children under 16 free. I’ll be sharing a booth with artists rep Camille Ronay, and artists Hannah Cohen and Barbara Roberds of New Orleans. The booth should be under the name Camille Ronay & The Point of Art Gallery. If you can’t find me, call my cell and I’ll tell you how to find us. (706) 372-7146
Please note - The Point of Art Gallery in Union Point will still be open that weekend. Lee will be here to help you.

I’m also very excited to tell you I was awarded an Artists in Residence by LUNA Creative Retreats in Colorado. It’s in a renovated old school house on a remote high plateau in the Rockies about 60 miles north of Taos in New Mexico. So, we’ll be heading out West again for 2 weeks and we are really looking forward to the whole experience. I just know it will be inspiring. The gallery will be closed for the 2 weeks we’re away, 18 Aug-2 Sept. Then we’ll open again on Thursday, 3 September… all full of vim and vigor!

I am honored to be nominated in "the best of" series in the Lake Oconee Living magazine survey - as an artist and as a gallery. The Bag of Hope was also nominated as “Best Volunteer organization.”
I have art & prices to suit all pockets… please come on in and support your local artists!

Look forward to seeing you!
