Welcome to THE POINT of Art

The Point of Art gallery & studio is located in the historic district of Union Point, Georgia. Our 1895 building is listed on the National Register of Historic Buildings. Union Point is about halfway between Atlanta and Augusta - take Exit 138 off the I-20 and head 4.7 miles N. Our hours are Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.. All other days by appointment, just call (706) 486-6808 and we'll open for you (I am usually in the studio, so it's no problem!)

Breaking News: The gallery is very honored to be invited to show at the Ritz-Carlton, Reynolds Plantation in the Spa Cafe. The artists will be changed out monthly, so don't delay seeing this exhibit. There will be a "Meet the Artists" reception at the Ritz Spa Cafe on Tuesday, Oct. 7 from 5-7 pm for the October show of Anne Jenkins, David Sifffert and Carole Connely.

NEW SHOW: The gallery's fall art show and sale, "Rural Georgia & the Vanishing South," opens on Thursday, October 9. There will be a ‘Meet the Artists" reception at the gallery, open to the public, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. with wine served. The show runs through November 8.

The atmospheric show of landscapes of rural Georgia and days gone by features the paintings of local artists Peter Muzyka of Madison, Robert Battle of Milledgeville, Nan McGarity of McDonough/Greensboro, David Siffert from Greensboro, and owner Anne Jenkins.

Muzyka paints primarily in egg tempura, a delicate medium much favored in the Renaissance period. and these new works of Muzyka will be shown for the first time. Battle’s series of oil paintings concentrate on the farm area around Sparta, Ga. His vivid depiction of light accentuates the bucolic settings in great depth. McGarity spent part of this summer painting en plein aire all around North Georgia and has some mesmerizing works of art for the show. She said she met some very interesting characters along the way and was awed by the simple beauty of the rural parts of Georgia. Siffert was something of a child prodigy - the Museum of Art in Washington, D.C. bought one of his oil paintings when he was 14 years old. His medium of choice is gouache. Jenkins’ acyrilic paintings mostly focus on the coast around Georgia and the shrimp boats in the marshes. The shrimp boat industry and it’s way of life is fast disappearing and she hopes she has captured the essence of this lifestyle on canvas before it is no longer around.

All these artists have won numerous awards at shows throughout the South.

Also in the show are Jan Whyllson of Greensboro; folk artist, Hannah Cohen of New Orleans; Lincolnton tin folk artist, Leonard Jones and Ronald Moore of Hartwell who does pen and ink sketches of places which in many cases no longer exist. Scenes of Athens and the surrounding area by Athens artist, Will Eskridge round out an excellent show.

Our hot SIZZLIN' SUMMER SHOW of cool jazz, sea scenes and trips closes out this weekend - it's your last chanc to see this vibrant colorful show - don't miss it.

GREAT HONOR: We were featured in a 3-page article in the June issue of SOUTHERN LIVING -It's under the Georgia Living - People & Places section. We're honored to appear in the premier magazine of the South! It's good for us and Union Point - we hope artists/art oriented folk come to town and will consider relocating here and join our artscentric community!

Then on Wednesday, June 4, we were featured in a long article in the Living section of the ATLANTA JOURNAL CONSTITUTION in their regular Getaway section - a guide to quick trips and good deals. The AJC is a great newspaper and the biggest in the state and region, so we are thrilled with such wonderful exposure.

There is also an exhibit of The Point of Art Gallery's artists at StrandZ - the hair salon par excellance.... don't miss it! The salon is opposite the Lake Welcome Center.

We teach The Entrepreneurial Artist workshops regularly ... and read what one of Lee's students wrote to the newspapers after attending the first "The Entrepreneurial Artist" workshop - check it out under "Consulting."

We look forward to welcoming you to The Point of Art! Do stop by and see us.
